Short Course: Drawing Exploration and Development

Short Course: Drawing Exploration and Development

Suitable for: Beginners to Improvers
Come and discover how to portray what you see through drawing. You will explore traditional and contemporary drawing techniques used and developed in the tutor, Tanya Wood’s, own meticulous drawing practice. Tanya will share her passion for drawing, guide and support you with practical tasks, demonstrations, one to ones and discussion to help you make the most of these six sessions.
You will learn about graphite pencils, their properties and potential to produce a wide variety of marks, taking drawing far beyond a line. You will explore materials, techniques and drawing elements such as line, tone, texture and composition through carefully devised exercises. Working from life as well as black and white photographs you will unlock the unique qualities of paper and pencil to produce life-like drawings.

About the tutor:

Through the art of drawing Tanya aims to communicate ideas concerning our everyday experience of being consciously present. The focus is on fast contemporary life, lived (often obliviously) in constant flux, of change and habit and that which receives our daily inattention. In contrast, Tanya’s drawings are an act of mindfulness; every detail and imperfection is faithfully transcribed; time is slowed in absorption while hours fly by.

By focusing on a moment, a detail combined with the meticulous rendering of surfaces, places and spaces Tanya hopes to provide a space for pause, drawing attention and awareness to ordinary reality in order to experience the present, more intensely. Drawing is her passion and helps me make sense of the world, it is an invitation and opportunity to spend more time looking at our immediate environment and our place in it, to make more of life lived now. We hope through Tanya’s workshops you can explore this passion and skill with her.

Our adult workshops are open to participants aged 18 and over.
