HumDrum: What the Butler Saw
Tickets: £15
Geraldine Butler is heading off to Dr Prentice’s private clinic for an interview for her very first job. Which, it turns out, is also her very first mistake. Being questioned about her education, her capabilities in a work-environment, her hopes for the future – yes! But being asked to take her clothes off for a physical examination..?
Naughty Dr Prentice is a slave to his sexual urges and is perfectly matched in this area by his equally naughty wife. Shame they can’t stand the sight of each other.
Mrs Prentice is, indeed, otherwise engaged with Nicholas Beckett, a page-boy in a local hotel who is attempting to blackmail Mrs Prentice with photographs of their hotel-bedroom shenanigans. And with Geraldine and Nicholas present in the clinic, now would be A Very Bad Time for a government inspector to arrive, wouldn’t it..?
Intelligent, rude and very, very funny but, ultimately, a true insight into the human psyche, What The Butler Saw represents the peak of Orton’s writing, to which HumDrum are proud to return following their award-winning production of Entertaining Mr Sloane in 2008.
This amateur production of “What The Butler Saw” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
Running time: 2 hours and 20 minutes (including an interval) approx
