Heritage Walk (Spring 2026) - The Archaeology of Power: Portchester Castle
Tickets: £7
Join us for a Heritage Walk.
Discover the stories, places, and people that shaped our local area with our guided Heritage Walks. Each walk costs £7 and offers a gentle pace suitable for most participants.
Please note that while the routes are designed to be as easy-going as possible, we cannot guarantee full accessibility due to uneven surfaces, historic buildings, and changing terrain.
Additionally, because some sections of the walk include visits to venues that do not allow dogs, we’re unfortunately unable to welcome dogs on these walks (with the exception of registered assistance dogs).
Come along, explore, and enjoy a relaxed step into the past with us.
The exercise of power often leaves its mark on the landscape and Portchester Castle provides a marvellous example of this. We will consider what the site might tell us about aspects of military, political, social and religious power through history as we walk around the perimeter (we will not enter the 12th Century castle keep on this trip).
The meeting point is the car park by the castle (PO16 9QW). The walk, starting at 10.30am, covers easy ground and will be under a mile in total.
