Born in Sheffield, Peter was brought up in music, his paternal grandfather being director of his colliery band and his maternal grandfather being a pianist who acted as accompanist to the Irish tenor, Josef Locke.  Peter studied piano with the distinguished pianist Arnall Oscroft  and later with James Murray Brown.  After university, Peter was awarded a postgraduate scholarship to continue his piano studies at the Royal Academy of Music where he was a pupil of the great Polish pianist Ryszard Bakst.  

Since that time Peter has worked variously as a pianist and accompanist, répétiteur, harpsichordist and conductor.  He gives recitals and lectures regularly for many music clubs and societies. Peter has been heavily involved in opera, and has broadcast on BBC Radio on several occasions including concerts accompanying Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Mary King and Benjamin Luxon.  As a conductor he has directed many large scale choral works including Messiah, Carmina Burana and the Chichester Psalms and concerto performances ranging from Haydn to Shostakovich. Whilst working in the field of musical theatre Peter rescored the music of Bizet for the European Premiere of Carmen Jones.

Peter has undertaken a tour as solo pianist of Eastern Germany under the auspices of the British Council performing in Berlin and in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig where JS Bach was organist. In summer 2010 he gave concerts in Amsterdam and The Hague playing Schubert and this summer performed a Mozart concerto with the Havant Chamber Orchestra.  Peter juggles his performing career around his role as Head of Music and The Performing Arts at The South Downs College.
