Museum School Visits

Explore Havant’s unique local history and investigate a range of curriculum themes through facilitated sessions and self-led activities using our local collections and temporary exhibitions.
This section includes details on Led sessions for schools (KS1 & KS2) including: Old & New (KS1), Our Town in the Past (KS2), Write-on Havant! (KS2), Gifted & Talented Sessions (KS2), Mini Museum Curator Training and Self-Led Resources (KS1 & KS2).

 

Led Sessions Cost: £20 per hour and usually last for two hours. Sessions are for one class of up to 35 children.

Enjoy our newly refurbished displays, including Havant at War, industry, transport and coastal heritage.

Led Sessions for Schools (KS1 & KS2)

Old & New (KS1)
A hands-on workshop designed to introduce children to museums and to develop investigation and thinking skills using new & historical objects and photographs. Available from Jan 2010.  Click on the link to download the Old & New Session Plan.

Our Town in the Past (KS2)
Pupils use their detective skills to explore life in the past in Havant, in a hands-on session using real objects and documents, including maps and photographs.  Click on the link to download the Our Town Session Plan.

Write-on Havant! (KS2)
A two hour led session focusing on using objects in the main collections or temporary gallery to kick-start the creative writing process and develop literacy skills.  Click on the link to download the Literacy Session Plan.

Gifted & Talented Sessions (KS2)
Questioning Skills
A one hour session exploring our museum collections, designed to further develop questioning skills.

Mini Museum (Curator Training)
A workshop to introduce pupils to the skills required to set up and run their own mini museum, using hands-on activities and real historical objects to investigate object acre and conservation, labelling and display.

Self-Led Resources (KS1 & KS2) are available from Jan 2010.  KS1 & KS2 self-led resources are available to help your class to further investigate the museum and its' collections. Self-led resources are FREE but must be booked in advance.
Self-led visit (KS1): A one-hour session with games, objects, costumes and trails helping your class to thoroughly explore and experience our new displays.
Self-led visit (KS2): A one and a half hour session using our resource box of hands-on activities and games, encouraging your pupils to use thinking skills.
