Exhibition Applications

Visual arts and exhibitions are an important part of The Spring’s work. We show a year round programme of work encompassing professional, emerging and community talent.

There are four main areas for visual arts exhibitions:

The Sadler Gallery
The Sadler Gallery is the main visual arts space at The Spring. Light and airy, the space is the main thoroughfare through the building, so work on these walls is seen by all visitors to the building. Two long walls give space to display large-scale work. Due to the nature of the space which is sometimes used as a venue itself, options for sculpture or plinth based exhibitions are very limited.

Sadler Gallery Cabinets
The four Sadler Gallery Cabinets is either used to display work that is complementary to that on the walls, or as an extension of one exhibition. The cabinets showcase small scale sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and metalwork in spaces measuring 38cm x 33cm x 32 cm.

All work that is displayed in the Sadler Gallery and Sadler Gallery Cabinets is chosen carefully. The key considerations when choosing the work are quality, suitability for the space and the balance of the visual arts programme.

If you wish to display in the exhibition spaces there are two opportunities in the year when we accept submissions. These are Local Artist 2016 Information and Open Submission Form 2016.

Sadler Gallery Jewellery Cabinets
The jewellery cabinets hold a year round display by local jewellers.
For further information or display in these cabinets please email visualart@thespring.co.uk

The Upper Mezzanine
The Spring has an exhibition space in the Upper Mezzanine in the heritage centre. This is primarily used for heritage inspired exhibitions, commissions or occasionally for exhibitions relating to projects managed by The Spring.

In some rare circumstances we may display work in this area by local artists, but this is only when an exhibition fits with a specific theme in our current work.

The Mezzanine is usually programmed over one year in advance. If you believe you have an exhibition that you believe may fit with our heritage work please contact: Kate Saunders, Participation and Heritage Manager on kates@thespring.co.uk

Hiring Exhibition Spaces
Please note, although our galleries may be hired for events we do not hire out spaces for exhibitions.
